A is for Average: footnotes from Chapter 4
28) Here is a link to a spreadsheet where I created my teacher performance bonus model. I’ve created it so that you can play around with the different percentages, etc., and you can see how it would affect the approximate total cost of the plan. This link is view-only, but you can make a copy of the spreadsheet for yourself and then play with that.
Have fun!
29) Here’s the link to the Hoover study that helps give a data-driven estimate of the value of a star teacher.
30) Here’s the link to the data for Pomona High. Select the first chart, which is “CAASPP English Language Arts/Literacy Results” and click the dropdown. Select “CAASPP ELA/Literacy Results by Race/Ethnicity for Selected Achievement Level.” You’ll see most ethnicities are not actually displayed. Underneath the chart is a blue bar that says “View Table Data,” and that’s where you’ll see that the data for Black students is “redacted.” Pomona High is not the only school for which this is the case.
31) Here’s the link to the District Administration article on why teachers quit or retire early.
32) If you want to know more about the difference between defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans (which really is something worth knowing the basics of), then here’s a link to the Department of Labor, which has a good, brief explanation of the basics.
33) Here’s the link to DonorsChoose. It’s a great way to support schools both in your neighborhood and in lower-resourced neighborhoods in California (and beyond!)
